OMA - Baggage

Baggage

Check allowed weights, carry-on allowances, restricted items, and everything you can bring on your flight.

General Recommendations

Check with your airline

Check in through your airline's website or app between 24 and 48 hours before your flight.

If you already have your boarding pass and are not checking luggage, you may go directly to the security checkpoint upon arrival at the airport.

Check the weight

Allowed weight on a flight varies by airline and fare. Generally, carry-on baggage is up to 10 kg (55 x 40 x 25 cm). For checked baggage (hold), the standard is 23 kg per bag in economy class and up to 32 kg. Low-cost carriers or basic fares may impose stricter weight limits.

Identify your baggage

  • Personalize your suitcase: Use stickers, tags, or decals that reflect your personality or interests.
  • Use eye-catching colors: Choose bright colors or patterns that stand out on the baggage carousel.
  • Place a tag with your name and phone number inside and outside the suitcase. Avoid including your full address for security.

Protect your belongings

To protect your baggage during travel, consider the following recommendations:

  1. Use TSA-approved locks. They allow airport security to inspect your suitcase (if necessary) without breaking the lock.
  2. Wrap your suitcase. You can use protective plastic or suitcase covers. You may also use the baggage wrapping service available inside the airport.
  3. Do not check valuables. Always carry the following in your carry-on: Money, electronics, important documents, jewelry
    • Money
    • Electronics
    • Important documents
    • Jewelry
  4. Take a photo of your suitcase before checking it. This helps identify it if it is lost or if you need to file a claim.
  5. Use durable suitcases. Prefer hard-shell suitcases with double zippers and good-quality locks.
  6. Check the destination tag carefully. When checking your suitcase, verify that the tag shows the correct airport to avoid misrouting.
  7. Remove tags from previous flights. Old tags can confuse baggage handling systems.

Checked baggage

If you are traveling with checked baggage:

  • Drop it off at your airline's check-in counter or kiosk
  • Keep the receipt until you reach your destination.
  • Baggage will be weighed, tagged, and sent to the aircraft.

Security screening

All checked baggage is screened by security systems before being transported to the aircraft, in accordance with current regulations.
